Partnership with Biosmart Energie srl GmbH:
In partnership with Biosmart Energie srl GmbH Bolzano, the promising market in Italy is targeted.Biomass study
From January to May 2007, a study was assigned by RENERGIE and conducted jointly by the consulting firm brainbows and the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture to determine the possible bio-energy potential in Austria’s agriculture and forestry.Key data of the study
- Even based on an optimistic assessment, Austria will not be able to provide, on its own, the resources which are necessary to satisfy the demand for biomass as laid down in the Biomass Action Plan.
- When analysing the resource potential in agriculture, an additional potential acreage of about 200,000 ha may be expected by 2010 (about 320,000 ha for 2020). This potential falls short of the Biomass Action Plan. Nevertheless, this domestic potential should be activated by providing the adequate political framework conditions.
- The time required for agriculture and forestry to adapt to the planting of new cultures (energy plants) & to intensified management practices has to be taken into consideration.
- The question of feedstock availability will become increasingly crucial for biomass projects
- International cooperations will play a significant role in the supply of raw materials.
